How Champions Are Made

The Woman.
Her Mission.
Her Mindset.

The power pivot changed the game for Andrea and skyrocketed her to the top of her career in lightning speed with no sign of slowing down.

Like Lenda Murray, Andrea is one of those women whose body responds quickly to resistance training. Since she began intense weight training, people in the gym quickly began asking her if she was competing in muscle contests. But during that stage of her development, Andrea did not see herself as being qualified to compete with the female bodybuilders she saw in magazines.

But she liked the look of the figure competitors and saw that as a category into which she could fit. So, in 2008, she joined her first figure contest and won 3rd place. Andrea entered a higher-level figure event and won 4th place. During this point, she was beginning to realize she might not be on the right path because she was focusing on figure instead of bodybuilding.

Andrea did not compete for eight years and used the time to attend college. She earned a BA in Exercise and Sports Science and continued to refine her resistance training.

When she resumed competing, Andrea decided to switch to physique. She joined a show in May of 2016 and won 4th place. Andrea admitted she felt much more comfortable in physique. That is why she entered five shows in 2018, earning her pro card at the NPC Nationals.

Andrea competed in pro physique at the Toronto Pro in 2019 and had an awakening at the contest. She consulted some people and they all told her she looked more like a bodybuilder than a physique competitor.

Ms. Olympia is no stranger to competitive sports and athletics with numerous years of competitive cheerleading and gymnastics under her belt.

Her mother was the one who encouraged her athletic ambitions. It was her who first got Andrea to begin working out at Powerhouse Gym. Her mom’s friend, who was a female bodybuilder, began giving Andrea guidance on muscle building exercises when she was just 17 years old. She did not want to be a bodybuilder back then. Instead, she wanted to be a fashion model but did not have the height for it.

Andrea remembered stumbling upon an Oxygen Magazine and seeing athletic fitness and sports models. Because of this, she decided to develop an aesthetic, muscular physique at the time.

In 2019, Andrea joined the Chicago Pro as a bodybuilder, winning second place by 1 point to Aleesha Young. This convinced her she had obviously made the right decision.

According to Andrea, being a bodybuilder has been a tremendous relief. She no longer had to hold back and restrain her muscular development. Other than this, she could diet for maximum hardness and definition without fear of going looking too hard for the judges.

Finally, she felt like she belonged. Andrea believes that getting into bodybuilding created a better balance by further developing her upper body rather than reducing the size of her legs. She was happy to be in bodybuilding because of Jake Wood and Wings of Strength. There seemed to be no future in pro female bodybuilding before the involvement of WOS bodybuilding.
